With the RM9L RGB-Mini, TCL doesn’t skimp on HDMI 2.1 ports. There are four in total, and each can support a 144Hz refresh rate for low latency PC games or whatever you want to throw on television. One of the HDMI 2.1 ports is for eARC passthrough audio to powered speakers or a receiver. I added an Xbox Series X and Google TV for testing and connected Klipsch’s Nines II speakers. There are two USB ports (one coaxial), an Ethernet port for wired connections, and a digital optical port. The TV uses Wi-Fi 6, which is fast and compatible.
I really like the remote, because it’s clean and easy to use. The brightness control is on the right-hand side, which is an amazing choice. For late night games you can quickly dim the light or bring out the light when the sun goes down. Small bugs on the remote to find out the number of voices and channels help you find them without looking. Buttons for free video clips and a few others seemed to be on the rise. Also, the Home button isn’t fixed, so it’s hard to find. Fortunately at this price, the remote is also enabled.
Real World Test Results
The two screens I tested at the same time, mainly to see if the contrast and brightness are as different as they should be for the price of the television. Wake up on Netflix and The Creator on the Fandango at Home program. This is because these videos tend to have poor visibility at night or dawn. Even some OLED models look washed out during cycling Wake up in which the actress Gina Rodriquez passes the man in the blue shirt. When I selected the Vivid picture mode I could see what was going on. I find the Mini RGB technology to be difficult at times, requiring advanced image tweaks.
About Creator, the original beach scene didn’t have the crisp look I’d like for its price, looking a little washed out with no blues or deep blacks. Even if you use Vivid or Dolby Vision IQ images, the scene looks very gray.
In skin benchmarks, the RM9L did not perform well compared to the LG Micro RGB Evo. I noticed a tonal lack, but in a side-by-side test against an LG television, there was more of a difference. This means that the RM9L is more in line with the midrange Sony Bravia 7 Mark II and the Hisense UR9 which also benefited from Mini RGB technology.
In the reel scene, there is one critical scene involving a white mist on top of a snowy mountain. The Leica Cine Play 1 the project is admittedly not a good test (although it is cheap) because the model has a special lens, but the mold was very different from it. The green grass near the fence in winter looked better and clearer than on the Hisense UR9, and the two TVs were on the same level as the buffalo in the field, showing different shades of brown. The LG Micro RGB Evo displayed several colorful images, including a yellow flower, a red cactus, a purple butterfly, and black trees at night.
