Review: Supergirl isn’t the disaster its low box office makes it out to be

Pour one for Super girlthe latest installment in the DCU’s Gods and Beasts chapter, which has been affected by troll attacks on the Internet, various comments, and a very frustrating opening weekend box office—not the results Warner Bros. was hoping for with last year’s results Superman. It’s a great movie, as such movies go, but it’s not big movie. And in today’s increasingly crowded market, this is not enough to get people out of their homes and into theaters, instead of waiting for the film to hit the platforms.

(Some spoilers below but nothing major to reveal.)

The studio hired Ana Nogueira to write the script, a holdover from previous DCEU plans for a Supergirl stand-up film. (The man appeared at the end of 2022 The Flashstarring Sasha Calle.) The project was reimagined when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over and launched a “soft reboot” of the DCU. Director Craig Gillespie (Lars is a Real Girl, I’m Tonya) signed on to direct.
