Meit’s day seven on “Melissa’s Island”. Melissa is grafting Hot Amadigi but keeps to rob him. Amadigi’s head is turned by a bird that fits Oriana, but Dardano’s snake tries to destroy him and he too I got ick. It gives strength to a toxic relationship.
The absurdity of Handel’s magic can be a headache for directors. But not Olivia Fuchs, who Amadigi for the Buxton festival takes paper-thin four hands and exchange magic TV tricks, witches for all-powerful producers, and a group of silly lovers for actors. The reality show Love Island. Add a flaming flamingo, more cameras and more hearts than a cardiologist meeting, and you have an episode that will keep you so busy smiling that you don’t even realize you’re involved.
With such little noise, chemistry is everything, and it’s a pleasure to watch sopranos Hilary Cronin and Rowan Pierce, and opposites James Hall and (in a spectacular leap) Tim Morgan, entangle themselves in Handel’s musical drama Twister. Eagle eyes have noticed a distinct lack of low-level sounds – another problem for the players, who must distract us from the missing colors. Enter Erin Helyard and the English Concert – a dynamic and baroque dream ensemble, whose soulful playing drives the proceedings, pausing only to take in the ecstasy of the oboe and bassoon.
This isn’t the first time he’s done a TV show, but it’s Fuchs’ timeless style that sells the idea. Melissa’s tricks are a movie trick, her trial by fire is a game challenge, and the final torture is accomplished with the help of a hot hair straightener and an eyelash-curler.
Hilary CroninMelissa deserves to have her own playlist because of her criminal use of hip and eyebrow-raising, negative or negative emotions used in Handel’s coloratura. When you hear what Cronin can do with the appoggiatura, you get a better understanding of how he can use the curl. All of that, and then he breaks your heart in the final way presented simply, directly under the glass.
Pierce’s wide-eyed Oriana is the silver of voice to Cronin’s gold – light and delicate. The clarity of Hall’s voice gives Dardano a lot of bite, although the beautiful “Pena tiranna” comes very close to the heroine’s vibes, and Morgan’s performance on Amadigi makes the girl sweat just a few words. To kill.
