Manchester Supergiants chased down the target of 81 off just 59 balls.

Rhianna Macdonald-Gain took 4-17 as the Supergiants took nine balls to spare at Lord’s, before the visitors’ batsmen ended their chase with the loss of just three wickets.

The Spirit were immediately in trouble after trying to bat in their opening game, losing openers Grace Harris and Amy Jones for four and a golden duck.

Macdonald-Gay dismissed top-scorers Marie Kelly and Marizan Cupp for 17, while Dendra Dottin was caught by Sophie Ecclestone for four.

Starting captain Charlie Dean was one of four bowlers to get close to double figures, reaching 14 before the end, as MacDonald-Guy kept Katie George back for eight early in the innings.

The Supergiants have spent five years as Manchester originals and have done a steady job of chasing down their lower targets as they play their first match under their new name.

Smriti Mandhana and captain Meg Lanning put on 33 for the opening wicket.

Cap hit Grace Scrivens bowling the next delivery, but Paige Scholfield survived the hat-trick.

Lanning was caught for 21 from Hannah Rennie, but Richa Ghosh (15 off five) and Scholfield (22 off 15) quickly finished the job, the latter hitting back-to-back fours and sixes to win the game.
