Residents flee as cars and houses burn in Belfast.

Residents have been forced to evacuate their homes in Belfast after street unrest following a knife attack.

Houses and cars were burnt and all public transport in the city was suspended.

A 30-year-old Sudanese man is due to appear in court on Wednesday charged with attempted murder following Monday night’s attack in north Belfast.

A man in his 40s is in hospital with serious injuries to his eye, neck and back.

Police in Northern Ireland called for calm in response to the attack as “sporadic pockets of disorder” erupted in Northern Ireland.
