Three of the world’s leading orthopedists have refused to allow Brazil’s Henderson Gallino, Al-Ahly Jeddah’s left winger, to undergo surgery on an injured knee, Saudi media reports have revealed.

Galeno suffered a serious injury after his compatriot Pinto’s contact with Al-Nasr’s goalkeeper in the 62nd minute of the El Clasico match, which ended with Al-Nasr winning 2-0. German coach Matthias Geisel had to replace him with Firas Al-Brykan after he was taken out on a medical stretcher.

Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiya explained that doctors have advised the player to undergo conservative treatment and an eight to 10-week rehabilitation program, and discussions with the club’s medical staff are still ongoing to make a final decision on the method of treatment.

The newspaper noted that the option of surgical intervention does not enjoy the agreement of the interested parties, because in recent days there is a tendency for the player to go to Europe to present his condition to a specialist doctor.

Gallino won the AFC Champions League title with Al-Ahly last Saturday, beating Japan’s Machida 1-0 in the final.

The injury has forced the player to miss ten matches for the team this season, including six in the league against Al-Hilal, Al-Hazm, Al-Shabaab, Al-Najma, Riyadh and Al-Ittihad, three in the AFC Champions League against Nassaf of Uzbekistan, Al-Duhail and Al-Gharafa of Qatar in the King’s Cup group stage, and one against Al-Batin.

In the current season, the Brazilian winger participated in 37 matches for Al-Ahli: 23 matches in the Roshan League, 8 in the Asian Elite League, 3 in the King’s Cup, 2 in the Super Cup and one in the Confederations Cup, during which he scored 4 goals and 11 assists.
