In the second round of the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday morning, the Tunisian national team suffered a 4-0 defeat against Japan, in a match that witnessed the obvious superiority of the Asian national team.
The clash also witnessed an unwanted historical record for Carthage Eagles French coach Hervé Renard.

Renard became the first coach to lose by 4 goals in his first game in charge of the Tunisian national team since coach Milan Krstic, who lost 5–1 to Yugoslavia on 3 January 1960.
The technical changes during the tournament also continued their historically negative results at the World Cup, as no new coach who took charge of a team after changing the technical composition during the competition managed to win their first game.
There have been five similar incidents so far, ending in three draws and two defeats.
The Carthage Eagles are officially out of the 2026 World Cup after a huge loss to Japan ahead of their third round group stage match against the Netherlands.
