A self-proclaimed truth-teller has been put on trial in a fierce defamation case where his opponents called him a bully.

But the Hollywood A-lister, who was described as “very difficult to get along with” and a “mixed nut” during the gruesome lawsuit, walked away from federal court. and the last laugh.

The Pitch Perfect star was accused of being accused by Australian actress Charlotte MacInnes, who played the lead role in Wilson’s first film, The Deb.

MacInnes said he had been insulted by Wilson in four social media posts suggesting he was a liar and a salesman who had defied the abuse to keep his job.

Wilson wrote to the young actress who confided in her – and later broke up – that she wasn’t happy when her co-producer Amanda Ghost asked them to take a bath and shower together.

MacInnes refused to complain, insisting he was unhappy when the pair showered in their clothes after Ghost fell ill in September 2023.

But in her judgment handed down on Wednesday, Justice Elizabeth Raper found evidence that MacInnes complained of discomfort.

The young actor took it back, perhaps in part because he was worried he would lose control of the incident and wanted to keep it, the judge confirmed.

He did not comment on any of the four media reports that tarnished Wilson’s reputation.

“This has been a long time coming and I’ve always tried to stay focused on my results and what I believed was right,” Wilson said after the win. “I’m thankful that the process has come to an end.”

However, the Bridesmaids star did not escape the highly controversial case unscathed.

For all of Wilson’s claims that he is known for telling the truth, Raper found the actor’s testimony to be false at times, self-serving at times and exaggerated.

MacInnes’ claim that the first director was to be trusted because of his role in the sports industry was dismissed.

“I was impressed by all the evidence that Ms Wilson is known to be outspoken but not reliable,” Raper wrote.

MacInnes also faced the same situation, the judge found that he was sometimes blunt and confrontational when asked to accept a valid point of view.

He confirmed that the young actor had given a number of inconsistent accounts of what happened in Bondi’s apartment after the hospital, as he had done to Ghost.

“I have serious doubts about the evidence of Ms MacInnes, Ms Ghost and Ms Wilson,” he wrote.

A critical analysis might be that MacInnes is questioning why he sued his famous colleague.

But defamation law expert Prof David Rolph said the case showed the seriousness of defamation cases.

“People who sue for defamation or intervene in defamation cases do not know and cannot control what will come out of court,” said a law professor at the University of Sydney. “Once you start, it’s hard to control and it’s hard to stop what can be said about you in court.

This made perfect sense to Wilson, who was he is said to be cruel and a liar in hearing for several weeks.

Deb’s manager denied the allegations, calling the allegations of conspiracy and conspiracy baseless and insisting that she has been a champion of women throughout her 25 years.

The rapper said he remained calm while being accused of lying and fabricating evidence during a two-day interrogation.

The allegations included that Wilson had lied about his involvement in the creation of websites defaming Ghost as “Indian Ghislaine Maxwell” and a sex trafficker.

The rapper did not confirm the contentious websites that became huge during the trial, as well as MacInnes’ claims that Wilson committed fraud that led to the release of her nude photo.

In the end, the judge found, even though one of the documents had been defamed, he was not satisfied that MacInnes had shown that he had been seriously harmed.

The four posts were seen by Wilson’s 11 million followers in 24 hours.

“The average casual reader could have skimmed the post very quickly and their reactions would have been interesting and brief,” he said.

The possibility of serious injury is a new thing that needs to be tested in the nation’s highest court, Rolph said.

“The courts have not decided exactly how to respond to this issue and what to do,” he said.

“It wouldn’t be surprising if there were grounds for a complaint of serious injury as a result of unusual and unusual legal issues.”

MacInnes has indicated that he intends to appeal against the decision, which left him with a huge bill for Wilson’s costs during the legal battle.

Rolph said such a large loss could have a chilling effect on some who are considering legal action.

With the appeal coming, neither Wilson nor MacInnes can say they escaped without a scratch.

The actors began their relationship full of passion, working together on a film that was to elevate both their careers.

But it ended up on the opposite sides of Sydney’s old court, accused of lying and greed.

As Wilson wrote in his affidavit in court: “Unfortunately, what started as a dream has turned into a nightmare.”
