Mourinho was seen talking to Vinicius after leaving the pitch following his relationship with Prestiani.

But Mourinho’s comments after the game were shocking.

While Mourinho publicly supported the player Prestiani, Vinicius pointed out that his celebration in front of the home support sparked the tension.

“You scored a goal from another world, why are you celebrating like this?” Mourinho said.

“The same thing always happens in many stadiums. How many states has this happened? How many stadiums? How many? How many?

“He’s an out-of-this-world player, I love him. Vinicius tells me one thing and Prestiani tells me another, I want to be balanced.”

The comments sparked widespread criticism, with many accusing Mourinho of diverting attention away from the allegations of racism and placing responsibility on the victim.

In addition to expressing his belief that the goal record was disrespectful, Vinicius also pointed out that the club’s veteran striker Eusebio is proof that Benfica is not a racist club.

Asked if he felt Vinicius had fired up the crowd, Mourinho replied: “Yes, I believe so.”

“It had to be a crazy moment of the game, an amazing goal. Unfortunately (he) wasn’t just happy to score that amazing goal. When you score a goal like that, you respect it.”

He added: “When he argued about racism, I told him that the biggest man in the history of this club (Eusebio) is black.

“This club, the last thing, is racist. They (Vinicius and Prestiani) told me different things. But I don’t believe in one or the other, I want to be neutral.”
