England beat New Zealand 1-0 in an uneventful friendly, but it was a chance to learn some of coach Thomas Tuchel’s thoughts ahead of the World Cup.
One of the most prominent points of interest was the identity of the player who would fill the starting left-back position given the competition between Marcus Rashford and Anthony Gordon.
From the start, Tuchel preferred to rely on Rashford, which is a clear indication that he is now ahead in the race for a starting position.
“Mundo Deportivo” newspaper reported that Rashford fully trusts Tuchel and was one of the most popular players of the England team in the first half.
The British press also praised the game of Rashford, who, it seems, is ready to start the upcoming friendly match against Costa Rica.
During the second half against New Zealand, Tuchel made a comprehensive change to the squad with the aim of giving minutes to as many players as possible, so Gordon replaced Rashford.
It is noteworthy that Barcelona recently signed a contract with Newcastle winger Gordon, which threatens Rashford’s chances of continuing with the Catalan team.
Last season, Rashford played on loan for “Barcelona”, which must pay 30 million euros to “Manchester United” to activate Marcos’ buyout clause.
