Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been sentenced to 30 days in jail after testing positive for marijuana.
Rice’s positive test for his role in a 2024 crash on a Dallas highway that injured multiple people is a direct violation of his probation.
The Texas State Attorney’s Office said Tuesday that Rice was ordered to jail as part of his original sentence last July when he pleaded guilty to third-degree felony charges of causing serious bodily injury and highway racing causing bodily injury.
As part of a plea deal last summer, Rice was sentenced to 5 years deferred probation and 30 days in jail as a condition of his probation, prosecutors said at the time.
Raees will release on June 16.
Chiefs declined to comment on the case Ap And a message left for Rice’s attorney was not immediately returned.

The timing coincides with the NFL’s offseason workout phase, which could mean the 26-year-old will miss organized team activities and minicamp this spring.
On March 30, 2024, Rice was driving a Lamborghini Urus SUV at 119mph (191kph) when he made “multiple aggressive maneuvers around traffic” and struck other vehicles, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said that after the crash on the North Central Expressway, Rice failed to check on the welfare of the occupants of the other vehicle and fled on foot.
In training camp before last season, Rice said he was “totally changed” and grew from the experience, which included a six-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.
“You have to learn from things like this,” said Rice, who helped the Chiefs win the Super Bowl in 2023.
“I learned and took the opportunity to be able to learn from something like that.”
