Rare identical four children born in Australia

An Australian woman has given birth to identical quadruplets conceived naturally after a pregnancy described as “extremely high risk” at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

The four girls, born by caesarean section at 28 weeks and four days on July 14, were monozygotic quadruplets – one fertilized egg splits into four embryos.

The hospital said the girls’ mother, Jenitar Naamoana, 34, and her husband Jortam, had four children and were “taken by surprise” when they were told they would be quadruplets.

Dr. Alexa Bendel, who has cared for the mother since her pregnancy, estimates that having the same four tumors is “one in 15 million pregnancies” and “to share the same placenta – that’s unheard of.”

Bendel, a maternal-fetal medicine specialist and obstetrician-gynecologist, said such pregnancies are very high-risk, and the hospital admitted Naamoana as a patient at 25 weeks, so she could be monitored.

“We always said we would have done better if we had her at 28 weeks,” Bendel said.

“So to have four beautiful healthy babies at 28 weeks and four days is incredible and we’re thrilled to be a part of it,” she added.
