Rangers’ Derek McInnes teases signing within 48 hours

“I really want it to be because I think it’s one or two areas of the pitch where we’re still a bit short.

“One would be permanent, one might be a loan, but we want two permanents.”

McInnes lamented the lack of chances in Sunday’s final pre-season friendly – a goalless draw at home to West Ham United.

“It’s just those difference makers,” he said. “I think a club like ours needs to have guys who can break away and be one-on-one and play from both sides.

“So we’re looking for a bit more creativity that can serve the strikers.

“I think we have strikers in Nadiri, Chermiti, Shankland and Miovski who can all finish chances.

“Maybe only Chermity is able to create a chance for himself. But Ryan, Lawrence and Bojan are too dependent on service.”

Meanwhile, McInnes feels “defensively a bit short in numbers” with four games in 12 days.

“I think we had five senior defenders out there and Ross McCrory’s got his knee open a bit and we didn’t take any chances with him today,” he said.

Rangers have signed three defensive midfielders this summer in anticipation of selling Ruskin.

Asked if the Belgian would be involved in Tannadice, McInnes said: “He won’t for the early part of the season, but going forward, Nico might be of some interest, we’re well aware of that.

“We always thought he could be a flight risk this summer on the back of the World Cup, so we strengthened the midfield area.

“But obviously if nothing comes for Nico, it’s another good player to add.”

Asked if there were any imminent outgoings, McInnes added: “There’s been some interest in one or two without naming names.”
