Rahimi achieves an unprecedented achievement… and Mazraoui equals the legendary number

The Moroccan team qualified for the World Cup quarter-finals after a well-deserved 3-0 win over Canada.

Atlas Lions players played a very different character throughout the 90 minutes.

Statistics network Opta reports that Nusair Mazraoui became only the second Moroccan player to win 10 or more tackles (11) and make 10 or more defensive clearances (10) in a single World Cup game.

He continued. “The only other Moroccan player to achieve this feat is Noureddine Naybet, who holds the record for the number of appearances for the Moroccan national team, in Morocco’s 1998 World Cup match against Norway, where he won 12 tackles and made 15 saves.”

Opta also pointed to the signing of Sofiane Rahimi, who scored Canada’s third goal.

He explained. “Rahimi has scored three goals in five games at the World Cup, with two goals and one assist, and all these contributions came after he came on as a substitute.”

He emphasized. “This is the most assists by an African player who did not start a match in the history of the World Cup.”
