Mexico’s Julian Quiñones continued to write brilliant new chapters in his football career after he got his country off to the perfect start in the 2026 World Cup in their opening match against South Africa.
The Mexican forward grabbed the spotlight early after he scored a superb goal against South Africa, capitalizing on a defensive breakdown to give Mexico an early lead and make his first mark at the current edition of the World Cup.
The goal was no ordinary one for Quiñones as he scored his biggest goal in history after becoming the first player from Saudi Arabia’s Roshan Professional League to open the scoring in a World Cup match, giving the Saudi Arabian competition an unprecedented breakthrough on the world stage.

The achievement follows an exceptional season the player put in with Al-Qadisiyah, where he was crowned the top scorer in the Roshen Pro League with 33 goals, beating a number of the tournament’s most prominent strikers. He also won the “Best Player” award as voted by the fans.
The goal was also Quiñones’ first in World Cup history and third in 23 international appearances for Mexico, getting off to the perfect start to their World Cup journey and confirming his readiness to lead his country’s attack at the tournament.
