Saudi Al-Qadisiya star Julian Quiñones caught the attention of the Mexico national team during their 2026 World Cup opener against South Africa.

Quiñones scored the first goal in a match that ended in a 2-0 victory for Mexico in the first round of Group A, which includes the pair along with the Czech Republic and South Korea.

Just 9 minutes later, Quiñones was able to score, capitalizing on a disastrous mistake by the South African goalkeeper, and rocketed into the net.

This is the third fastest goal in the history of the opening games of the World Cup after Brazilian Cesar R. Sampaio scored Scotland’s goal after 4 minutes during the 1998 World Cup.

In second place was Germany’s Philipp Lahm, who scored a superb goal after 6 minutes against Costa Rica in 2006.

Quiñones came on the back of the duo to write his name in golden letters at his first World Cup.
