Quick response. FIFA approves French president’s request ahead of Spain clash

FIFA has responded to French President Emmanuel Macron’s official request for a minute’s silence before the start of the 2026 World Cup semi-final between France and Spain.

This request comes in honor of the lives of the victims of the recent terrorist attack in Nice.

Macron announced through his account on the “X” website that a minute’s silence will be held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Tuesday evening before the start of the expected showdown.

The French president thanked FIFA president Gianni Infantino for his quick approval of the request.

The game coincides with the tenth anniversary of the bloody attack on France’s national holiday, Bastille Day, on July 14, 2016, when a truck driver plowed into a crowd of revelers on the Nice Corniche, killing 85 and injuring hundreds.

The summit clash between France and Spain kicks off at 22:00 Mecca time against two of the most popular title contenders. This time, the meeting will begin with a tribute to the victims of one of the most tragic terrorist attacks in modern French history.
