Queens: Cameron Norrie defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina but Arthur Ferry

Cameron Norrie lost to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in Queen’s in the Briton’s first singles match since suffering a rib injury in May.

Norrie is often the last Briton standing at Grand Slams but last month had to retire injured from a first-round French Open match due to problems.

He returned to the court in the men’s doubles at Queen’s on Monday, where he and Australian partner Alex de Minaur lost 6-4 7-5 to India’s Yuki Bhambri and New Zealand’s Michael Venus.

On Tuesday, the British number one started strongly against world number 22 Davydovic Fokina but eventually faded in a 7-6 (8-6) 6-2 defeat.

Norry went up an early break against the Spaniard but Davydovic Fokina responded straight away before holding firm in the tie-break.

Despite finding herself on the floor at several points while diving and sliding around the court, Davydovic Fokina broke Norrie’s serve twice en route to victory.

Norrie is one of five Britons with direct entry into Wimbledon’s main draw and will be selected when the tournament begins on Monday, June 29.
