Profile – David Hockney – BBC Voices

Available for over a year.

David Hockney has died aged 88. This program is distributed in 2025. David Hockey is arguably Britain’s most popular living artist. He is known as a colorful character, not only in his paintings of Californian landscapes, sparkling blue pools and dense Yorkshire forests, but also in a carefully curated portrait of himself from the 1960s – bright blond hair and oversized black round glasses. He was born in Bradford in 1937 and knew at the age of 10 that he wanted to be an artist. He studied at the Royal College of Art, and was a key player in London’s bohemian pop-art scene in the mid-20s. He then moved to LA in pursuit of sunshine and inspiration. He enjoys using new technology to create; From the Polaroid to the fax machine and the iPad. Now, more than 60 years into his career, 88-year-old David Hockney isn’t slowing down. His image was recently displayed by drones in a light show in the sky above Bradford, in tribute to the city’s most famous boy.
