A producer who suspected the up-and-coming star was retaliating against her harassment complaint Rebel Wilson He is said to have stuck to “difficulties” between Wilson and his other employers.
Charlotte MacInnes is suing Wilson after she starred in the Pitch Perfect actor’s first film The Deb.
MacInnes is said to have been vilified by Wilson in a social media post calling him a liar and a salesman who dropped a harassment complaint against him to further his career.
The documentary says MacInnes told Wilson – but later recanted – that she was unhappy when her co-producer, Amanda Ghost, asked to take a bath and shower together.
The claims are based on a medical condition Ghost suffered at Bondi Beach on September 5, 2023, which led to him bathing with MacInnes in their bathing suits to keep warm.
Neither the young player nor any witnesses were affected by the incident and did not think anything was wrong, the court was told.
Wilson testified that he was shocked by the divulgence and spoke about it that night with The Deb’s producer, Greer Simpkin, who explained to him that he was responsible.
But Simpkin told a federal court on Friday that he did not discuss the incident with Wilson until he called several days later.
He said he didn’t find out about Wilson’s claim that MacInnes was unwell until a week after his dinner with Ghost.
“I would have done something earlier if I would have known it wasn’t right,” Simpkin said.
They later arranged for MacInnes to be removed from the house where he lived with Ghost and another woman during production.
“I asked that the reason be as we talked about Rebel needing a place close to the beach,” the local producer sent to Ghost.
He then met with MacInnes’ assistants to make sure the player was OK and revealed the real reason behind his sacking.
In an email given to the court, the agent also responded to “fix this rift” and revealed that MacInnes had never been comfortable with Ghost, who he idolized.
Simpkin emailed Ghost and noticed that the young actor’s experience was different from that of the producer and a woman who was there.
She wrote: “Charlotte is changing what she said to Rebel.
“I feel Charlotte is being rude.”
The local producer said he didn’t know what he meant by “fudging” in the email, but he remembered there being a difference in his recollection of what happened in the bathroom.
His messages relied on Wilson’s insistence that he did not understand MacInnes’ revelations, Simpkin told the court.
He said: “Here I am in trouble.
“Rebel Wilson is my boss, as is Amanda Ghost. I’m trying to respect both of them.”
But the email confirmed that MacInnes was not comfortable and Simpkin felt that meant the matter was closed.
He said he had not received any communication from MacInnes on behalf of him and was shocked when the alleged complaint was again tampered with by Wilson the following month.
Wilson has denied accusations that she fabricated the abuse claims or raised them to support her feud with her co-producers rather than concern for her partner.
He keeps MacInnes “Flip flopped” and changes his story in exchange for “big attractions”, including a leading role in stage and record production.
