Prince Harry once again thought about taking Meghan and the children on a trip to England

The Duke of Sussex is reconsidering plans to bring his wife and children back to the UK next month after having his request for police protection turned down, the BBC understands.

Prince Harry, his wife Meghan and their two children Archie and Lilybeth were to visit their family in England for the first time in four years.

His team made a formal request for police security while in the UK but were told on Friday that no taxpayer funding would be provided.

Sources say Prince Harry is frustrated with the decision just days before the family arrives, but still wants to find a way to make the trip work.

The delegation was awaiting the outcome of a security review by the Home Office’s Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), which determines security provision for senior members of the royal family.

On Friday, after announcing the details of the UK tour, it was said that the band would not provide any police protection to the family.

Prince Harry and Meghan have accepted an offer to stay at a royal estate as guests of King Charles during the trip, although the chosen royal residence has not been officially announced.

They were also required to use private accommodation while living in England.

There will likely be police protection during their stay at the royal estate, but outside of that time Prince Harry will have to rely on a private security team traveling with him from California.

The family was supposed to stay in England for around five days.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, plans to join her husband at several public engagements in London and the Midlands.

The visit is to mark the start of the year-long countdown to the Invictus Games for injured military personnel, which will be held in Birmingham next July. Prince Harry is the founder of the Games.

After moving to California, they are expected to visit other charities in the UK.

On previous visits, Prince Harry has turned down requests to stay at Buckingham Palace because he was concerned about using such a high-profile and visible building.

Last year he He lost a legal battle to get regular police protection When visiting the UK.

In an interview with BBC News after the decision, Prince Harry expressed his desire to make “reconciliation” with the royal family. He said that he was worried that there would be no problem in bringing his wife and children back to his country of birth.

“At this point I can’t see a world where I’m going to send my wife and kids back to England and what they’re going to miss is, well, everything,” he said. “You know I love my country, I always have, even if some people in the country do.”

The last time the monarch will see his grandchildren in person is on Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

Prince Harry last saw his father in September when he had tea with the monarch at Clarence House, their first face-to-face meeting since February 2024.

A final decision on the trip and the participation of Prince Harry’s wife and children will be made in the coming days.
