High praise for the Egyptian star
Australian Ange Postecoglou, the former Tottenham Hotspur manager, has confirmed that Mohamed Salah has virtually answered any doubts raised about his influence on the Egypt national team after he guided the Pharaohs to a historic 2026 World Cup victory over New Zealand.
The Egypt captain played a major role in the 3-1 win, scoring the lead and providing the third assist to give his country their first ever World Cup victory.
Postecoglou said in his statements to the British “ITV” network. “If there was any doubt about Mohamed Salah’s influence on this team, everyone can still see it clearly.”
He added: “This victory will give huge confidence to the Egyptian national team. The players had to deal with difficult circumstances during the game, but their biggest star took charge and showed up at the right time.”
The Australian coach explained that moments like these are what separate the great players in major tournaments, saying: “Promotion in the competition requires the stars to be at their best and that’s what Salah did.”
Postecoglou’s praise came after the Egyptian national team overturned a one-goal deficit to win by three, coming very close to qualifying for the round of 32, before facing Iran in the final round of the group stage.
Salah continued to make history for the Pharaohs after scoring his third World Cup goal. To tie the Arab goalscoring record in the tournamentHe also took his international goals tally to 68, just one goal away from equaling the all-time record held by Hossam Hasan.
