French police turned down a request from Paris Saint-Germain ahead of Wednesday night’s match against Lens on the night of the French league final.
Lance hosts St. GermainThe Paris team need only a draw in the postponed match of the 29th round to win the title of champion for the fifth season in a row.
Saint-Germain will play their final match in the league next Sunday against Paris Saint-Germain at the latter’s stadium, and Saint-Germain have asked to celebrate the title at the Parc des Princes, a short walking distance from the venue of the last game.
L’Equipe newspaper reported that local authorities rejected Saint-Germain’s request on security and regulatory grounds.
“The reason is simple. To celebrate the French league title, a large number of fans will be present at the stadium of the winning team, and the match will finish around eleven in the evening, which is a very late hour. Therefore, due to security and organizational reasons in both stadiums, the request of the 2025 European champions was rejected. Capital City fans will have to wait a little longer.”
Notably, Saint-Germain are also set to compete in the Champions League final for the second season in a row against Arsenal on May 30, marking the French team’s first ever title win last season.
