Filip Horgavic could fight Moses Itauma in August after dispatching Dave Allen in three rounds on Saturday.
Horgavich is an Olympic bronze medalist who previously fought top heavyweights including Daniel Dubois, now the WBO world champion.
Horgovic pulled Allen aside at Doncaster’s Eco-Power Stadium on Saturday and later apologized to the overflow crowd.
“Sorry guys, I know I’m not the favorite guy here,” he said. “That’s what boxing is all about.
“I’m going to be the heavyweight champion of the world.”
He added: “I started quickly because I saw that I was connecting.
“He was very open from the beginning so I wanted him to finish quickly to make a statement.”
He insisted he was open to a fight with Itauma, the division’s undefeated rising star.
“Moses never reached the Promised Land!” Hrgovic declared. “I want to fight anyone in the division, Moses, anyone.”
If no injuries or cuts sideline him, he could be ready for the Itauma box next August.
“If I’m healthy — and I look like me — there’s no problem for me,” Horgavich said. “I never run away from an opponent.”
George Warren of Queensberry Promotions believes Horgovic and Itauma are on course for a fight. “They’re going to have to get it at some point so let’s get to it now,” he said.
After Horgovich’s fight with Allen, Warren revealed that a contract structure was already in place for Horgovich to fight Itauma.
“That fight is there, over. When Philip re-signed with Queensberry, he made a deal with Queensberry that he had an option,” Warren said.
“My job, as soon as we get back to the office, is to try and build that fight and announce it.”
