Mr. Philip Davis will take his seat as the Prime Minister of the Bahamas after the Progressive Liberal Party won the first election.
The results were announced late Tuesday, and Davis celebrated the results with a speech to supporters in the Nassau capital.

“To the Bahamians who voted today but didn’t vote for us, I want you to know that I hear you, I hear you, and I want you to know that I will continue to work hard for all Bahamians,” Davis said.
This victory is the first time since 1997 that a political party in the Bahamas has won two consecutive elections.
Preliminary figures show that the Progressive Liberal Party is set to win more than 30 of the 41 seats in the Bahamian Parliament. Official results are yet to be released.
Davis is therefore on course to become the first Prime Minister to remain in office in nearly three decades. Hubert Ingraham of the Free National Movement (FNM) was the last minister to act.
It is unclear, however, whether the current opposition leader, Michael Pintard of the Free National Movement, will step down after Tuesday’s loss. Pintard acknowledged his party’s defeat by calling Davis.
“The Bahamian people chose,” Pintard told supporters. “In a democracy, that’s the only voice that matters.”
Pintard retained his seat in the Legislature, representing the Marco City district.
This election was the second in a row that the vote was called early.
According to officials, the early election this year was aimed at avoiding any disruption that could be caused by the Atlantic hurricane in October, when the vote is expected to be called.
Davis and his party also won the primary election in 2021, which was held in September of that year.
Heading into Tuesday’s vote, the Progressive Liberal Party held 32 of the 39 seats in Parliament, the lower house of Parliament. The Free National Movement had another seven seats.
But in the latest vote, two new regions were created: St James and Berry Islands.
By adding the two new constituencies, the number of seats in the House of Commons has increased from 39 to 41 in this year’s vote.
The poll included factors such as the cost of living, housing affordability, crime, immigration and access to health care.
As the vote approached, Davis, for example, moved to raise the excise tax on food in grocery stores, although it was argued that the plan would do little to ease the problems of Bahamian banks.
