Florentino never forgot Mourinho
The Catalan newspaper “Sport” reported that the president of “Real Madrid” Florentino Perez has fully agreed with the Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, stipulating that the “Special One” will return to the “Santiago Bernabeu” stadium as soon as the selection process in the corridors of the club is completed.
Mourinho’s return is seen in Madrid circles as a direct response to the internal divisions and conflicts that have characterized the current disastrous season, as Florentino believes the dressing room is now in dire need of authority and the ability to impose order from day one.
A decline in alternatives
The decline of the remaining options that the club was considering contributed to the acceleration of the decision in favor of the Portuguese coach.
Fuergen Klopp has confirmed he has no plans to return to training any time soon after the fatigue he endured during his time at Liverpool, while managers such as Lionel Scalloni, Didier Deschamps and Mauricio Pochettino will have to wait until the end of the 2026 World Cup before taking on any new roles.
There is a firm conviction inside the Bernabeu that the club cannot wait any longer and that a solution must be immediate and decisive.
Florentino never forgot Mourinho
Although Mourinho’s departure in 2013 was not on the best of terms, Florentino has always held a high regard for the Portuguese coach and he openly hinted at it during his recent interview with journalist Josep Pedrol.
He said: “I like Mourinho. I like all the trainers. He was with us, raised our level of competitiveness and we won several Champions League titles after that.”
“Electoral drama”… and the announcement at the last stage
Real Madrid plans to announce a new coach after the selection process, which Florentino Perez himself resolved during a controversial press conference last Tuesday.
The incumbent had pushed the election date forward, a move many interpreted as a strategy to secure a new term without real opposition.
The deadline for nominations is May 23, and so far all indications are that Enrique Riquelme, the only businessman seriously considering running against Florentino, will not be able to fulfill all the necessary requirements in time.
