Pep Guardiola: Man City manager says they have ‘one more year’

As things stand, there has been no confirmation from either Guardiola or the club about his future, but former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is understood to be among the frontrunners to replace him.

City’s preference is to keep Guardiola for as long as possible, but sources have told BBC Sport that there is real doubt over the final year of his contract.

Guardiola, who publicly says he loves working at the club, has won 19 trophies during his time at City, including six Premier League titles, the Champions League and two FA Cups.

His team remains in the hunt for a seventh Premier League title of the season, but they are two points behind leaders Arsenal with two games to play.

Asked if his reign was the definition of greatness, Guardiola twisted the answer and said: “Yes, of course, 19 titles in 10 years is not bad.

“They know they don’t have to wait until I’m gone, they know I’m having fun. So 19 titles – fight for 20 in 10 years – it’s not bad, honestly.”
