Paralympian Liam McGarry has been ruled out of the Commonwealth Games after battling sepsis

“Missing the majors after a four-year eligibility cycle cuts deeper than most people realize,” he added.

“We spend our lives working for these moments and they don’t come often in a short sports career. But since Worlds last October, life has asked me a lot of big questions from the platform.

“For a while, the goal stopped being medals, rankings, or qualifying standards. It became healing, surviving, and finding my way back from the hardest chapter of my life.

“That’s one thing I know, I’ll find a way. Be back soon.”

This summer’s Commonwealth Games run from July 23 to August 2, with Matthew Harding, Mark Swann, Louise Sugden, Doa Shaya, Olivia Broom and Charlotte McGuinness all competing in para-powerlifting.
