Flora Badger takes three teenage girls abroad on their first vacation this summer.
BBN spoke to Your Voice to share her frustrations with seeing holiday prices fluctuate.
Flora had intended to book in early April to avoid the expensive summer months, but said the situation in the Middle East and fear of being shut out put her off.
She has already booked a trip to the Spanish island of Lanzarote in September.
“Cost was a big, big issue,” she says. “It’s frustrating how much it adds up to the school holidays.
“At the end of the day, they need treatment, we’ve been saving for it, they’ve been looking forward to it, so we plan to continue.”
The surge in prices on European holidays may have eased, but it is still falling, according to travel supermarket data.
Average all-inclusive seven-night family fares to Spain this August are up 4% to £155 per person. Prices for Portugal increased by 3%, and Greece by 5%.
It doesn’t matter what day of the week you travel, but a family of four for seven nights will pay up to £160 more to go to Spain this year compared to last year, bringing it up to £4,340 in total.
The figures are based on online searches on TravelSupermarket between 18 April and 17 June, including all-inclusive seven-night family holidays in August 2025 and 2026.
While this data snapshot shows a general trend, costs vary depending on where a family goes and when they enroll.
One thing Flora can take advantage of is that car rental prices have dropped in all of the most popular destinations compared to last year.
