Argentina captain Lionel Messi continued to make history at the World Cup after setting a new record against Egypt.
Messi scored one goal and one goal to lead Tango’s team to a decisive 3-2 win over Egypt in tonight’s round of 16 clash against the winner of the Switzerland-Colombia match on Tuesday night.
The win came after Argentina trailed the African giants by two.
Messi set up Christian Romero’s 9th World Cup assist for the midfielder.
According to “Squaka” statistics, Messi became the player who scored the most goals in the history of the world championships, surpassing the previous record of the late legend Diego Armando Maradona (8 assists).
Messi can increase his number of assists in the quarter-final match, which will be against Colombia or Switzerland.
Notably, Messi is also the tournament’s all-time top scorer with 21 goals, including eight in the current game.
