One Day Cup: Durham remain unbeaten despite Ben Stokes’ duck

Durham proved they are not a one-man show in the One Day Cup.

Talisman Ben Stokes has put the stress of Test cricket behind him and is in red-hot form, posting unbeaten 108 and 73 in this tournament – but he missed just one ball as Durham chased down Glamorgan’s 326-6.

It was Dan Duthwaite who put the Cowards at bay, dismissing Emilio Gay and Stoke with successive balls.

But it was a case of ‘no Stokes, never mind’ as Rhodes wore the cap to post a career-best List A 148 not out. He and Casey Aldridge scored 145 to lift Durham from 97-6 to 242-7.

After Aldridge’s departure, James Minto (30) and Rhodes took them home on 328-7 with three wickets.

Rhodes took 2-31 with the ball early on but it was a day for the Gunners as Eddie Byrom (76), Zain Ul Hasan (65), Callum Nicholls (45) and Douthwaite (45) gave Glamorgan a challenging, if ultimately unsuccessful, total.

The win lifted Durham into third place in Group B, level with Yorkshire and Middlesex.

Yorkshire ended Worcestershire Rapids’ unbeaten start in emphatic fashion, winning by 6 wickets in 56 balls at Clifton Park.

Will Luxton posted a second successive century following his 117 against Sussex on Sunday as the Yorkshireman chased down Worcestershire’s under-par 230 to reach a career-best 126.

After half-centuries from Dan Lategan (67), Henry Cullen (70) and Matt White (53) the rest of the Rapids line-up proved inadequate as they failed to contribute with the bat.

Luxton, the tournament’s top scorer with 331 runs, took his side to the brink of victory with four balls before George Hill launched his winning run.
