Officially: Younis Mahmoud, President of the Iraqi Federation

Iraqi football legend Younis Mahmoud has decided in his favor the election of the president of the Iraqi Football Association during the voting held on Saturday.

According to the Iraqi “INA” news agency, Yunis Mahmud received 38 votes from the members of the General Assembly, while his competitor Adnan Darjal received 20 votes, while the candidate Iyad Bunyan received only one vote.

The agency said two ballots were canceled during the counting, which took place under official supervision to ensure the integrity of the election process.

Mahmoud, a 2007 Asian Cup champion with Iraq’s national team, is responsible for leading the federation in a sensitive phase that saw the Mesopotamian Lions qualify for the World Cup in America, Canada and Mexico.

The elections were held in the presence of the members of the General Assembly under the supervision of the competent committee to elect the new administration that will lead Iraqi football in the next phase.
