Egyptian club Al-Ahly have announced an agreement to meet their counterpart Barcelona in a friendly match in the Juan Gamper Cup.
Al-Ahli released a statement via its social media pages Through it, he announced the agreement to hold the friendly match with “Barcelona” on August 19 at the Spotify Camp Nou Stadium.
The agreement was reached after the official delegation of Al-Ahli Football Club, consisting of Ahmed Hossam Awad and Naira Ali, paid a short visit to Spain to put the finishing touches on the match.
Al-Ahli explained that the move comes as part of the football company’s efforts to increase the club’s global presence and open new horizons for cooperation with Europe’s biggest sports clubs and institutions.
The move comes after Barcelona completed a deal from Al-Ahli to sign their young striker Hamza Abdel Karim on a permanent basis following a loan spell in the second half of last season.
The Juan Gamper Cup is the annual event in which Barcelona presents its first team to its fans before the start of the new season.
The tournament first started in 1966 with the participation of four teams, before the system was changed to two teams since the 1997 edition.
Notably, Al-Ahli will be the first Arab and African team to be selected for the Juan Gamper Cup title alongside Barcelona, as previous participants have not left clubs in Europe, South and North America.
