Interesting behind the scenes
The new technical director left his position due to not achieving good results during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
And he announced Czech Football Federation officially The departure of first team coach Miroslav Kubic by mutual consent after disappointing results at the World Cup.
The Czech Republic crashed out of the World Cup in the group stage, earning just one point in Group One with South Korea, South Africa and Mexico. To make matters worse, midfielder Tomas Soukek left North America on crutches after spraining his knee and ankle badly on the field against Mexico.
Kubik took over the technical leadership of the Czech national team last December and was able to lead the team to the finals of the World Cup, winning two qualifiers against Denmark and the Republic of Ireland on penalties.
Barely six months after taking charge, the coach confirmed his departure from his post, scathingly criticizing what he described as “half-truths” circulating during the tournament and published at the same time as his departure.
Kubiak said in his direct resignation statement“After the failure in the World Cup, for which I bear joint responsibility as technical director, and taking into account all the circumstances, I have decided to submit my resignation to the president of the Czech Football Federation, David Trond.”
“After mutual discussion and consultation, the president of the federation accepted my proposal, and as a result, my work with the national team was terminated. A media campaign based on a series of half-truths and lies against me also contributed to this decision.”
The retired coach continued. “In light of this atmosphere, my work with the Czech national team no longer makes sense, and I would like to thank the president of the federation David Trond and the executive board of the Czech Football Association for the trust they have shown me.”
“I also want to thank Pavel Nedved for his cooperation, as well as all members of the technical and administrative staff and the employees of the Czech Football Association for their great commitment, and first of all, I thank the players. It was a great honor for me to lead the Czech national team.”
“I regret that after gaining experience and knowledge from the World Cup, I will not be able to achieve the specific and clear visions I had for my future work with the national team. I also give my sincere thanks to the fans, as their support throughout the qualifiers and the World Cup itself was exceptional and I will never forget that.”
Kubik concluded. “I wish the Czech national team and my successor the best of luck in their future careers and I will continue to support them wholeheartedly like any Czech football fan.”
Kubiak’s departure follows that of South Korea coach Hong Myung-bo, who led his country to a 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic earlier in the tournament before stepping down after 1-0 defeats to Mexico and South Africa, which saw his side fail to qualify for the knockout stages.
The tournament had previously witnessed the sacking of Tunisian national team coach Sabri Lamouchi after just one match at the World Cup, in which he suffered a humiliating five-goal loss to the Swedish national team.
