Strong move from Royal
Real Madrid has stepped up its stance on the Negrira case after announcing that it has submitted a formal memorandum to the European Football Association (UEFA) demanding the reopening of a disciplinary case involving payments received from Barcelona to the former vice-president of the Spanish Football Federation’s refereeing committee, Jose Negrea.
Real Madrid said: In an official statement, He informed UEFA’s disciplinary authorities of the existence of “substantial evidence” which reinforces the indicators known from the beginning of the case regarding the existence of long-term and non-transparent payments that were transferred to Negrera through various structures and companies.
The Royals considered these incidents to be an “extremely serious systemic threat” to the integrity of sports competitions, as they, according to the statement, reveal the existence of a mechanism of illegal influence on the arbitration system, contrary to the principles of competitive fairness, neutrality and sports integrity.
Real Madrid called on UEFA to reopen the disciplinary case previously opened in the case, stressing that the continuation of the current situation without a decision damages the confidence of football and its institutions and requires strong sports measures to be taken, independent of the ongoing investigation and judicial procedures.
The Spanish club emphasized that it is not calling on UEFA to pre-empt court rulings or replace competent authorities, but rather to take the disciplinary and regulatory measures it deems necessary to ensure the integrity and transparency of European competitions.
Real Madrid also confirmed it would continue to take legal action in the case as a plaintiff in the ongoing criminal trial, citing its commitment to protecting the sport’s core values and working to ensure that such incidents do not go unpunished.
