Noskova defeats Muchova in Wimbledon final to record first Grand Slam title | Tennis news

Linda Noskova’s victory over Karolina Muchova makes her the third Czech women’s champion in the last four years.

Linda Noskova recovered from a nerve problem that saw her squander five points in the second set as she wrapped up a 6-2 5-7 6-3 victory over fellow Czech Karolina Muchova in the Wimbledon women’s singles final on Saturday.

The 21-year-old was at full strength when she won the opening game in 32 minutes and led 5-2 in the second set in the first Grand Slam final between two women from the Czech Republic in the professional era.

But the fighting Muchova saved three match points at 2-5, one in the next game when a weakened Noskova double-faulted, and then another at 4-5 as the previous one-sided contest came to life on Center Court.

In the ninth round Noskova lost five games in a row as Muchova pulled the match to decide.

Somehow Noskova banished the demons from her head as she recovered her strength to take a 5-2 lead in the third set.

The 29-year-old Muchova got one game back as shadows crossed the court, but when Noskova was called for a second serve, she made no mistake to claim her first Grand Slam title.

After bringing back two more game points, an hour after his first goal, he pulled off an irrevocable feat before falling asleep on the court in a fit of joy.

She is the third Czech player in four years to win the Wimbledon women’s title after Marketa Vondroussova in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024.
