No further action against Zac Polanski in guillotine retrial, police say.

The Metropolitan Police has announced it will take no action after Green Party leader Zac Polanski reposted a photo of him wearing a guillotine T-shirt with the slogan “We’re planning just for Nigel”.

In a statement, the force said it did not believe sharing the image was a crime.

A spokesman for the Green Party said it was clear from the start that no crime had been committed, telling Reform UK they were “using this as a political football for their own ostensible purposes”.

In response to the Met’s decision, a spokesman for Reform UK said: “Once again we see that we live in a two-tiered Britain.”

“Zach Polanski was allowed to get away with incitement to murder, while ordinary people up and down the country knocked on his door making jokes online.”

The Met said after careful review it had concluded that sharing the image online would not constitute a criminal offence.

This post was shared by about 130 accounts and the Police should not treat individuals differently based on their official profile, which means any investigation should take all these accounts into account.

“If their actions are unlikely to be ultimately criminal, such an extensive investigation is considered a disproportionate and unreasonable use of police resources.”

While the Met Police said it would take no further action over the sharing of the image, it said it had decided to register an offense in connection with wearing the T-shirt and had lodged a crime report with Avon and Somerset Police, which covers Bristol, where the photo was taken.

Shortly after the Met Police statement, Avon and Somerset Police said “the level of criminal offense was not met”.

Avon and Somerset Police made the decision: “Particular consideration was given to the context surrounding the image, the use of song lyrics and the marketing of the t-shirt as a satellite.

“There have been no complaints from people about the event it was worn and there is no evidence that the person wearing the T-shirt was intended to intimidate any individual or encourage anyone else to do so.”

The force added that it takes the security of elected politicians “very seriously” and will continue to take action “wherever there is a known threat”.
