If you’re the type of person who always uses extra confirmation, or have a weakness for unusual devices, Talking Flower might be interesting. I just act like I’m serious. The toy is based on the character from Super Mario Bros. Wonder which guides Mario through the levels with sarcastic, kind words. It’s amazing that it exists, but, then again, this is the company that made it Alarm.
The Talking Flower started at $34.99, but has dropped in price quite a bit Amazon and Walmart. Instead it will cost you $29.99 to buy a cute talking toy.
The Talking Flower doesn’t have many features. In contrast to $110 Alarmit cannot act as an alarm although it asks you when you go to bed and when you wake up (so that it knows when to be quiet). You are there to call it every hour that passes when you are awake, and to say things unexpectedly. It can tell about the time of day, and the temperature thanks to the thermometer that is built. The Talking Flower does not have a microphone, and does not connect to the Internet. However, it has a button that will make it say things, if you don’t want to wait for it to just spit out its pre-programmed thoughts. As with video games, you can choose the language it speaks.
My friend Andrew Webster got in touch and the Talking Flower, and its takeaway was that it’s a whimsy drip feed. However, sometimes she would say something that would remind Andrew to take care of himself, whether it was instead of resting or relaxing during the day. I’m amused by the many reviews on Amazon, which show that consumers are divided on whether they are annoyed by the Talking Flower, but still love it – just like they did. I wonder.
