Nintendo plans to launch Switch 2 hardware versions in the EU that will allow users to easily replace the battery. In order to meet the requirements from the new EU regulations that will come into force on February 18, 2027, Nintendo says. on his website that “it is establishing the following procedures for preparing the types of products to meet the Regulation.”
Thanks to EU regulations, devices with replaceable batteries are coming back, like my friend Dominic Preston wrote recently. From February 2027, EU legislation will require that many devices, including sports portables, allow users to easily remove and replace their batteries.
Nintendo does not say exactly what will change with this new version of the Switch 2 to make the battery change easier – at the moment, removing the battery in the Switch 2 is a part, many ways, as shown by iFixit. It is also not known if the updated version with a replaceable battery will be available in other regions. Nintendo did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
On its website, Nintendo says, “On current products with model numbers starting with ‘BEE'” – which is used by the Switch 2, as shown. in Nintendo’s filings with the FCC – “Future versions will have unique model numbers with an additional ‘OSM’ number appearing on the packaging, making them separate items for the controls.” Change the 2 controllers like Pro Controller and Joy-Evil also carry the BEE moniker, and we’ve asked Nintendo if they’ll also have replaceable batteries.
