Nine people were brought to court in the historical sexual exploitation of children

Kevin Lawrence, 54, of Dunon, was charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit the rape of a female 16 years of age or older and solicitation of a female.

Sheikh Mohammad Tahir Ullah, 73, of Newport, was charged with raping a female 16 years of age and older and raping a female under 16.

Aminer Rahman Chaudhuri, 58, of Tottenham, has been charged with raping a girl aged 16 and over.

Shakeel Babur, 58, from Nelson, Lancashire, has been charged with four counts of assaulting a girl under the age of 16.

Murad Ali, 57, has been charged with raping a girl under 16 years of age.

Muhammad Ramzan, 76, of Newport, was charged with rape of a girl under 16, indecent assault on a girl under 16, solicitation of a girl under sixteen and conspiracy to rape a girl under 16.

Gwent police said their investigation focused on the sexual abuse of eight women as children over an 11-year period.

Some of the rape charges relate to multiple rapes, the force said.

Det Supt Andrew Tuck previously said: “It is vital to the integrity of the victims and the investigation in this case that nothing is posted on social media that could influence the court proceedings.”

“Anyone who reports child abuse is taken seriously. We would urge anyone who has been abused or who has concerns that someone may be suffering to come forward.

“We’ll listen, we’ll investigate all the mistakes and we’ll make sure you can get the help and support you need.”
