Nigel Farage gives a statement on ‘the future of his public life’

Nigel Farage has said he will make a statement on the “future in public life” at the new inquiry into funding.

The Reform UK leader’s statement from 14:00 BST comes after he was once accused of fraud in the US after failing to report benefits he had been offered by a partner. Rival parties want this to be a parliamentary inquiry.

Separately, Farage Clayton has been under investigation by the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner since May after failing to declare a £5m gift he received from a billionaire Reform UK donor before he was elected as an MP.

Farage argued that he was under no obligation to declare any benefits under the Commons rules and had done nothing wrong.

The probe into Farage’s finances made headlines earlier this year after it was revealed he had received a £5m gift from Thailand-based British cryptocurrency investor Christopher Harbor in April 2024 before entering parliament.

Harborne has spent 15 million for reform since the beginning of last year.

Over the weekend, The Sunday Times reported that Farage had gained support ahead of the 2024 election. In 2017, he pleaded guilty to wire fraud from long-time partner George Cottrell, who was jailed for eight months in the US.

This will reportedly include payments to staff who provide Farage’s security and work on his social media content.

According to the newspaper, Farage rented a property near Buckingham Palace from Cottrell.
