News Release – Royal Marine seizes Russian Shadow Fleet tanker

Available for over a year.

Royal Marine commandos boarded a Russian Shadow Fleet oil tanker in the English Channel early Sunday morning. National Crime Agency officers, supported by the RAF, hijacked and boarded the ship in a six-hour operation – the first of its kind by British armed forces. The vessel, Smyrtos, will be detained and monitored off the south coast of England while the investigation continues, the ministry said. Joe Pike joins Laura and Paddy to go over what we know about the operation, and put it into context given the week’s resignation on the government’s defense investment plan.
