Neville: Bielsa was strict with Muslera against Spain

A hard goodbye

get Coach of the Uruguayan national team, Marcelo Bielsa from ArgentinaCriticism from Gary Neville after he made the decision to replace veteran goalkeeper Fernando Muslera at half-time in the World Cup match against Spain.

Gary Neville was in the analytical studio of ITV at the Spain-Uruguay World Cup match led by coach Marcelo Bielsa.

The first half saw limited action and the ITV pundits didn’t find much to talk about at half-time in a clash that brought together two teams who had won the World Cup three times before.

2010 champions Spain managed to open the scoring through Alex Baena in the 42nd minute, but the studio analysts considered the goal to be the result of a mistake by goalkeeper Fernando Muslera.

Muslera, who is 40 years old, was not at his usual level in the first half, especially when dealing with Spanish passes and aerial balls from corners.

Muslera made his 137th international appearance for Uruguay in what could be his last for the national team after conceding a goal in a game he hopes to quickly forget.

Baena’s shot came from the edge of the box and it wasn’t powerful or carried much speed or accuracy, but Muslera couldn’t stop it.

The veteran keeper appeared to be torn between holding the ball or sending in a corner kick for Spain, but he did neither and was content to get his hands on the ball to direct it into the corner of the goal and into the net.

After half-time, ITV footage showed the national team entering the pitch as Sergio Rochet appeared in the goalkeeper’s shirt in Muslera’s absence after Bielsa opted to replace him at half-time.

Gary Neville has commented on Bielsa’s decision to replace the veteran goalkeeper, describing him in just one word: “ruthless”.
