Neuer is Germany’s top goalkeeper at the World Cup… on two conditions

Veteran Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will return to Germany’s squad for the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States of America, Sky Sports Germany reports, but that is subject to two conditions.

According to the network, Neuer will most likely wear the German shirt again, unless something exceptional happens in the next few hours or days, and provided that his substitution (due to a calf/calf injury) in today’s game in Cologne on Saturday does not have any long-term consequences.

In an official statement, the star of “Real Madrid” denies his connection with Vinicius’ separation from his girlfriend.

Other major German media such as Bild and Kicker reported that national team coach Julian Nagelsmann recently had a private conversation with Neuer.

There have been discussions about Neuer returning as the starting goalkeeper, and not just a replacement, but the final decision on the final national team (26 players) will be announced next Thursday.

Notably, Neuer ended the German league with Bayern Munich (who won the title) today, Saturday, beating Cologne 5-1 in the last round.

The Bayern Munich goalkeeper announced his retirement from international football on August 21, 2024, after making 124 appearances for the Machines.
