Recently, my father called me in a panic.
It was a few minutes before Netflix started streaming MMA events, and they couldn’t log into my account. For a while, he got Netflix as an additional member with his profile through my home account. That day, however, he was kicked out and couldn’t use my login credentials to watch Netflix. Instead, he took the time to ask her to “add email to your profile” to continue.

After some phone problems and multiple password resets, we discovered that my dad had to create his own login to continue using the extra data I paid for. Although I was able to get him to calm down in time (for some frustrating issues), the situation was confusing and confusing.
Many users are facing this issue because Netflix gradually required that each account registered with Netflix use a unique email address. When setting things up for my father, I was also asked, but not required, to provide a first and last name.
A Netflix spokesperson confirmed to Ars Technica:
This entry change is a permanent change that began on June 15, 2026.
The change means that each user can now have their own login credentials, which will allow users of a second account to save or change their credentials, log into a new device, or use two-factor authentication. This setup also allows account owners to set up their own language, audio, and display settings without the account owner, Cord Cutters News documents.
