Netball Super League: London Pulse seal extra-time win over LexisNexis Dragons

London Pulse made their Netball Super League debut with a 67-66 win over LexisNexis Dragons after extra time.

The third-place Pulse was tied with their opponents at 56-56 at the conclusion of regular time.

Kamogelo Maseko gave them the lead with a minute of added time remaining and Pulse closed out the match against the fifth-placed Dragons.

Liv Tichain was Pulse’s top scorer with 37 goals, while Maseko added 16 of her own.

“Really proud to get through the group,” man of the match Halimat Audio told BBC Sport.

“We didn’t want to go to extra time. We did it, it’s a testament to our fitness.”

In Sunday’s other game, the Birmingham Panthers picked up a 52-51 win over the London Mavericks in just their second game of the season.

The Panthers picked up the win despite having fewer shots than their sixth-placed opponents, moving to the bottom of the table.

Betsy Crick scored 31 goals for the Panthers and they were replaced by NIC Leeds Rhinos at the foot of the table after their 79-55 defeat by Loughborough Lightning on Saturday.

Samantha Wallace-Joseph scored 34 goals for the Lightning, who are second in the table.

In Friday’s match, Nottingham Forest, who secured the fourth and final playoff spot last weekend, lost 78-51 to league leaders Manchester Thunder.

Forest’s Rolen Strutker was the game’s top scorer with 30 goals, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Thunder, for whom Eleanor Cardwell, Lois Pearson and Sophie Fons scored 25, 17 and 12 respectively.

The regular season concludes next weekend with the 14th and final round of games, before the all-important playoffs.
