Negotiations have begun to dismantle the Nazi treasury under Berlin.

There are plans to demolish one of the last remnants of Adolf Hitler’s powerhouse in Berlin.

Nothing remains of the Nazi leader’s chancellor in central Berlin, except the treasury.

But now there are plans to demolish it to build apartments and offices.

Built by Hitler’s favorite architect, Albert Speer, the New Reich Chancellory was heavily damaged at the end of World War II and then demolished in 1949 by order of Soviet forces.

However, the tower can still be seen in the desert.

Berlin housing senator Christian Gabler (SPD) believes it is time for the structure to go.

He told BZ newspaper: “It is not only to protect the place where we stand on the barrier of new housing developments, but it can be a pilgrimage.”

But others say that the deposit should be kept.

Dietmar Arnold, chairman of Berlin’s Underworld Association, told the BBC that dismantling the shield would be absolute madness.

“It’s a place for criminals,” he said. “It was the center of power of Nazi Germany, the chancellor of Hitler’s New Reich, and these are the last remnants.”

He wants to work with the Holocaust Museum to turn the site into a museum and memorial, holding an exhibition about the end of the war.

“A lot of history has been destroyed here in Germany, communist history and Nazi history. We can’t keep doing that.”

Arnold last entered the bunker in 2011. In 2007, he said he was doing very well.

He said that this is not the most famous Fuhrerbunker, where Hitler and Eva Braun killed themselves and which is located 120 meters to the north.

Instead this was used by people working in the Reich Chancellory. At the end of the war, a hospital was opened in the building.

According to Arnold, the 1,200 square meter (12,900 square foot) bunker complex remains intact. The walls and ceiling are each 1.7 meters (5.6 ft) thick.

He believes it is possible to build on top of them without demolishing the entire bunker.
