The New York Knicks dominated the Philadelphia 76ers with a 144-114 victory that secured their spot in the Eastern Conference Finals with a 4-0 series victory.
The Sixers entered the series buoyed by their 4-3 series win over the No. 2 Celtics, but the loss to the Knicks proved a step too far, outscoring their opponents by 19.4 points-per-game, the largest through two rounds since the 16-team playoff in 1984.
The Knicks hit a total of 18 three-pointers in the first half and scored 54 points off the long ball, compared to 57 points for the 76ers. Overall, it was an 81-57 lead and helped the Knicks sweep their first best-of-seven series since the 1999 East semifinals against Atlanta.
New York has advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the second consecutive season and will play the winner of the Cleveland Cavaliers-Detroit Pistons series. The Pistons currently lead 2-1.
Deuce McBride started in place of injured wing OG Anunoby and hit seven three-pointers, going four for four in the first quarter as the Knicks posted another record with 11, and scored 25 points. Star point guard Jalen Brunson had 22 points, Josh Hart and Karl-Anthony Towns each scored 17.
Knicks fans have made a habit of piling thousands of tickets into Sixers arenas for playoff games over the years, and in Game 4, they made perhaps the loudest statement yet. They waved ‘Always Knicks’ off the field, waving towels once inside, while a few remaining Sixers fans jeered.
“Our guys tried to take it to another level with their attention to detail and their energy and effort level,” Knicks head coach Mike Brown said. “A lot of it is because we’re playing pretty good basketball.”
Joel Embiid finished another injury-plagued season with 24 points, Tyrese Maxey had 17 and the Sixers haven’t gotten out of the second round since 2001.
“Coming into this year (with health), I don’t know how long I’m going to play, if I’m not going to play based on how the knee has been the last few years.” Dr. Embiid.
“I just came in hoping for the best and I feel like we’re in a position where we took the knee out. It wasn’t a problem.”
