“We’re going to destroy you tonight”. or phrases to that effect. The South Africans were true to their word.
The Springboks match-day bus pulled up with the squad ahead of the game to rapturous cheers from the home fans who dragged themselves away from their traditional braai in the car parks surrounding Kings Park.
Then the second bus took off. The non-match day squad includes Cheslin Kolbe, Handre Pollard, Eben Etzebeth, Lud de Jager and Ivan Roos.
An example of the gulf between South Africa and Wales as the number one team on the planet is their 11th place in the world rankings.

“I feel flattered after that than a 73-0 loss,” former Wales hooker Scott Baldwin told BBC Radio Wales.
“We had everyone available, except for three players, and South Africa didn’t have as strong a team as the Principality Stadium.
“There were a lot of chances for South Africa, they just weren’t clinical enough to finish them off.
“A number of them Welsh players went to South Africa four years ago and won a Test match. We feel like we’ve fallen behind in the last two games.”
