Napoli are turning to their old tricks to make up for Conte

The Napoli team began the search for a new technical director after their coach Antonio Conte decided to leave at the end of the current season.

Conte has made the decisive decision to waive the end-of-service compensation bonus in an “honourable arrangement” with the southern club’s management, according to a number of Italian reports.

According to the same reports, “Conte informed President De Laurentiis of his decision last April” to leave by mutual consent.

In light of these developments, initial reports suggest that Napoli are turning their attention to their former coach Maurizio Sarri, the current Lazio coach, as he is considered one of the most popular candidates to replace Conte at the Maradona Stadium.

Sarri enjoyed remarkable success with Napoli between 2015 and 2018, leading in two of his three seasons, finishing second to dominant Juventus.

The possibility of Sarri leaving Lazio at the end of the current season is increasing, and he may return to Napoli for a second term.

The only obstacle facing Napoli in bringing Sarri back appears to be Atalanta’s entry into negotiations, as they also try to convince the manager to take him in charge.

According to journalist Alfredo Pedulla, both Napoli and Atalanta have made a two-year offer for Sarri, with the possibility of an extension offered by Atalanta.

Pedulla adds that Atalanta’s offer is “higher” than the €2.7 million a year plus bonuses that Napoli are willing to pay.
